SIGMASOFT: Advanced simulation to optimize MIM project development

by Ecrimesa Group / Wednesday, 09 April 2025 / Published in MIM

At Ecrimesa Group, innovation is a key pillar to ensure maximum precision and cost-effectiveness across our processes. For over 15 years, we have integrated simulation tools into our manufacturing technologies, allowing us to improve production efficiency and deliver more effective solutions to our customers.

As part of this ongoing improvement strategy, we implemented SIGMASOFT at the end of 2023—an advanced simulation software that has significantly enhanced our ability to analyze and predict outcomes. It enables us to anticipate potential issues and optimize every stage of the injection process.

What is SIGMASOFT and how does it work?

SIGMASOFT is a simulation software specifically designed for modeling injection processes, combining thermal, rheological, and process analysis. This tool is essential for predicting how the material will behave during injection, allowing us to identify potential defects or inefficiencies before the physical mold is produced.

The integration of SIGMASOFT into our workflow begins in the early design stages. From mold concept to pre-production validation, the software provides detailed simulations that allow us to fine-tune both the part and mold design. This enables us to optimize the injection process and minimize risk. With Sigmasoft, we can make informed decisions based on accurate data, ensuring that every project is feasible and efficient before production begins.

What competitive advantages does SIGMASOFT offer?

The implementation of Sigmasoft has significantly enhanced our ability to conduct pre-production analysis for new projects. By combining advanced data from the software—developed through years of research on material behavior under varying temperature and pressure conditions—with our in-house expertise in MIM technology, Sigmasoft has become an essential tool for our mold design office. It allows us to optimize both part and mold design with a clear focus on three key objectives:

(1) Mold design optimization

Sigmasoft enables us to improve temperature distribution within the mold and optimize material flow into the cavity, ensuring a more efficient and homogeneous injection process.

(2) Defect prediction

The software identifies potential issues such as air traps, short shots, or particle segregation, allowing us to address them proactively using its powerful Design of Experiments (DoE) module. This feature enables us to introduce multiple injection parameters and analyze which combinations deliver the most reliable and optimal results.

(3) Analysis and solutions for production issues

SIGMASOFT is not only valuable during the early stages of a project—it also supports the continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes. As our team gains experience with the software, we have increasingly applied reverse engineering to combine real-world injection knowledge with the specific materials we use. This allows us to model simulations with greater accuracy, helping us identify and resolve issues such as unexpected defects, energy inefficiencies, or cycle time deviations.

Benefits for our customers

Submitting a project for simulation with Sigmasoft is especially valuable during the early stages of development. It provides a precise view of the feasibility of the part design using MIM technology and increases the likelihood of a successful outcome.

Anticipated, tangible results
Sigmasoft simulations deliver visual results before production begins, boosting customer confidence—particularly in complex parts or when mold investment is high. These visual insights support informed decision-making and help reduce uncertainty.

A solid foundation for design optimization
Simulations enable joint analysis with the customer, using visual data to refine the part design. This process aligns customer requirements with our technical expertise and the constraints of the technology, ensuring the quality of the final product.

Reduced lead times in industrialization
Investing time in upfront analysis reduces rework and delays, helping to ensure robust designs and high-quality parts, especially in long-term projects.

Stronger customer collaboration
Using Sigmasoft demonstrates our commitment to quality and project dedication, reinforcing customer trust and encouraging closer, more effective collaboration.
