Today we speak with José Antonio Moreno, a parts inspection operator using the non-destructive testing system with penetrant liquids at Ecrimesa Group. Since June 2024 he has been part of the company, where he works inspecting parts to check that they do not present defects and to guarantee that they meet the requirements before being used. In this interview he tells us what his work consists of, how he evaluates his experience in the company and some reflections on his profession.

1. How long have you been working at Ecrimesa Group?
I have been working at Ecrimesa Group since June 2024.

2. What tasks have you performed there?
The tasks I have performed have mainly been as a Non-Destructive Testing inspector using penetrant liquid methods. I have also carried out some inspections with magnetic particles and a little bit of visual inspection.

3. How have you seen the evolution of the company since you joined?
Regarding how I have seen the evolution of the company since I joined, the truth is that I usually do not pay too much attention to things that are outside my position, because I do not like getting involved in other people’s work. As far as my area is concerned, some small things have improved and that means that, although there are still more things to improve, the evolution is positive.

4. How would you explain to your children what you do for a living?
I do not have children, but when someone asks me what I do, it is usually difficult to explain, especially when the person did not even know that this type of inspection work existed. Normally I start by explaining it in a general way: I inspect parts that have just been manufactured and we have to make sure they do not have any defects, which is my case.

I also explain that this type of inspection is used in other areas to verify that fatigue from the work of a part is not weakening it and that, if that were the case, it would need to be replaced or repaired.

When people find out that their vehicles or everyday objects undergo this type of inspection, they usually ask more in depth and then the explanation becomes more technical. I explain the process involved in the inspection, for example that the parts must be completely clean, something very important because dirt can hide a defect or give you a false indication.

Then I talk about the application of the penetrant and the time it requires. It may seem trivial, but this inspection is very important, especially when that part is installed in airplanes, for example, or in a car or a motorcycle. If it is not done properly and the part fails, it can cause an accident.

5. How do you evaluate your work experience at Ecrimesa?
I consider my work experience at Ecrimesa to be a positive experience. I am always learning a little more, because every part is different and you have to know how to adapt to each case, and that is exactly what I try to do in my work.

There are several inspection methods and it is very important to know them well, because each one can serve to discover defects that you cannot see with another method. In this job there are no two inspections that are the same.

6. What recommendation would you give to the new generations who are currently entering the workforce?
The recommendation I would give to new generations who are entering the workforce is that they should first try to do something they truly like. From there, they should train in that profession and then look for their place.

It is not easy, because over time you discover things, as happened to me. I discovered this type of work by chance. It is a job that carries a lot of responsibility, but you should not run away from it. You have to accept it and do things properly.

7. In which company would you like to work, even if only out of curiosity?
I do not have a specific company where I would like to work. I am a person who, as long as my work is respected and valued, that is the company where I want to be. The only thing that might make me consider another option is if it were related to aeronautics, because it is a very interesting sector.

8. If time portals existed, which period of the past would you like to travel to?
If time portals existed, I would simply love to travel to see what life was like in different periods. I would like to see the Middle Ages, the time of Rome, Egypt or the golden age of the Spanish empire. Basically, I am very interested in history.

9. Recommend a movie, a series, a song and a book.
Regarding recommendations, tastes vary a lot. My favorite trilogy is Back to the Future. As for series, it depends a lot on the genre; for example, Supernatural or The Office.

Regarding music, I listen to almost everything, but I always recommend Estopa, any of their songs, and also the flamenco from my region. As for books, I am not very knowledgeable and I do not have a specific one to recommend. I would only say that if a book hooks you in the first pages, that is your book.

10. That country or city you are eager to visit.
The country I would most like to visit is New Zealand. I would love to go there someday.
