Alex Stafford: Linking environment, risk prevention and technology.

by Ecrimesa Group / Monday, 08 January 2024 / Published in Interviews

Alex, Environment, risk prevention and laboratory technician shares his 21-year career in Ecrimesa Group, highlighting his role in the evolution of the firm towards sustainability and innovation. Get to know his work and personal life, his view upon the new generations, and his interests beyond work.

  1. How long have you been working at Ecrimesa Group?
I have been in the company since June 2002, 21 years already!
  2. What tasks have you performed there?
I am Environment, Risk Prevention and Laboratory Technician. I currently work in these three aspects.
  3. How have you seen the evolution of the company since your incorporation?
The group has progressed constantly, always looking towards continuous improvement and technological innovation. I often think about how many workstations have improved since I started working in Ecrimesa Group.
  4. How do you tell or would you tell your children what you do for a living?
I used to explain them that I work to make the company more respectful towards the environment. Although I do many more tasks, you have to simplify, and this was my first task.
  5. How do you value your work experience in Ecrimesa?
After 20 years here, it is my second home, the veteran staff (lately, we are having many new recruits) is like my second family. When I go out to do some activity in the region it is easy to meet some (or many) colleagues from work.
  6. What recommendation would you give to the new generations who are currently starting to work?
Nothing new really, prepare yourself well, apply yourself and give your best.
  7. What company would you like to work for, if only out of curiosity?
I enjoy practising outdoor sports like mountaineering, climbing, skiing, sailing, surfing or BTT, so I would like to work in a company offering outdoor activities.
  8. If time gates existed, to which era of the past would you like to travel?
I would be interested in visiting classic Rome, it was such an advanced civilization for its time. Sometimes I wonder where would be now, had it not been erased from the map, plunging Europe in the Middle Ages.
  9. Tell us an amusing anecdote related to your work.
In the laboratory where I have my office, every year we get a pupil doing work placement: they are always 21 years old, we on the other hand are a year older every year. Lately we are getting the next generation, sometimes a song plays in the radio and I tell them: “Your parents hadn’t yet met when this song was released!” and we all have a laugh. We still take it with Good humor, we will see in a few years.
  10. Recommend us a movie, a series, a song and a book.
Movie: From the last films I have seen, I really liked the Green Book, a great performance by Vigo Mortensen, great Italian – Bronx accent, a great contrast with the perfect English of his travel companion.

Series: I am not a series guy, the last one I have seen and I could recommend is Good Omens, original and with good performances.

Song: As for music, lately I am listening to a country singer, Chris Stapleton (8 grammy award winner), his star song is Tennessee Whiskey, but he has many great songs, including the best version of the American national anthem I have ever heard. Book: I do not read much lately, I’m focusing on my guitar playing whenever I can, but I am a big fan of Stephen King and John Grisham.
  11. That country or city you can’t wait to visit.
Right now, maybe Japan or Argentina, but there is so much to visit… I’m still discovering corners of our region Cantabria, a veritable treasure trove.
