David Pelayo: safety, prevention, and commitment

by Ecrimesa Group / Friday, 05 December 2025 / Published in Interviews

David Pelayo Abascal has recently joined the Occupational Risk Prevention team at Ecrimesa Group. In this interview, he shares what motivated him to join the project, how he is experiencing his first weeks, and what has surprised him about the industrial environment. He also explains how he understands his role, what he hopes to bring to the team, and some personal details that help us get to know someone who, from now on, contributes to building an increasingly safer workplace for everyone.

1. What attracted you to Ecrimesa Group to join the project?
I was drawn by Ecrimesa Group’s strong market presence and the opportunity to grow alongside a multidisciplinary team with solid experience in the industrial sector.

2. How have your first weeks at the company been?
These first weeks have been focused on adaptation and integration, getting to know both the team and the production processes. They’ve been intense days of work and analysis of the company’s current situation in relation to my area—occupational risk prevention—which is essential to being able to carry out efficient and long-lasting work.

3. What has surprised you the most about the work environment?
The scale of the environment and the differences between processes. What has particularly caught my attention is how, despite their specific characteristics, they are completely compatible and come together effectively to deliver a product that meets the customer’s needs precisely.

4. How would you explain what you do to someone outside the sector?
My work involves interpreting current safety legislation and anticipating potential changes. From there, I advise both management and production teams on the necessary actions to ensure a safe working environment. This helps build trust within the team and, as a result, improves productivity.

5. What do you hope to contribute to your team in this new stage?
I hope to bring fresh ideas, unconditional support, and serve as an efficient point of assistance for any matter that requires my involvement.

6. If it weren’t Ecrimesa… which company or sector would you have liked to work in, even just out of curiosity?
Initially, I was drawn to the field of civil construction and building, a sector I am already familiar with. If I could explore another area, it would be the education sector, which has also been one of my main interests in the past.

7. What is your essential tool at work?
The computer and phone are essential. I also frequently use a calculator and a measuring tape.

8. An object that cannot be missing from your desk (and why).
There are always document organizer trays on my desk. I usually work on several tasks at the same time, and I need to have them visible and well-organized in order to manage them efficiently.

9. Recommend a movie, a series, a song, and a book to get to know you better
Movie: The Four Feathers (2002 version)
Series: House, M.D.
Song: Always by Bon Jovi
Book: Harry Potter (actually, the entire saga)
A country or city you’re eager to visit: New Zealand, without a doubt.
