In this article we will explain why the aeronautical sector is a particularly interesting market for the metal industry. What challenges does it present, and why is it of particular interest to us at Ecrimesa Group?
According to Airbus, 39,000 new commercial and cargo aircraft are expected to be in demand by 2040: Almost half of them will be due to the renewal of the current fleet. The new commercial aircraft will be of the latest generation, more efficient and with lower emissions. Not only is commercial aviation expected to recover, but the rise of e-commerce will drive the need for more cargo flights with higher capacities.
For Ecrimesa Group the aeronautical sector is: technology, safety, long-term projects. Therefore, the challenge of developing multifunctional parts, with highly demanded features, materials as varied as aluminum, stainless steel or steel. Lighter parts, but resistant and with high quality. These requirements can be achieved with technologies such as Investment Casting and MIM (metal injection molding), complemented by machining. The group offers all the technical advantages, with years of experience and a strong concept of competitiveness.
In such a demanding sector, quality certifications, such as EN 9100, which Ecrimesa Group has, are essential and open up a wide variety of possibilities and markets.
Focusing on the manufacturing of parts for the aerospace industry, an aircraft and its environment is a world of specialties. These specialties are mainly: The propulsion (engines, jets, …), the envelope (what “the airplane” is made of) and the ground peripherals (which allows the airplane to fly).
Aircraft propulsion is in full evolution driven by factors of reduction of production costs, reduction of operating costs (consumption), but also reduction of nuisances (environmental pollution, reduction of noise impacts, …). Therefore, it is necessary to imagine new solutions, changes in technologies. We are very satisfied with our participation in this area.
The envelope is a world, a dwelling. The goal is to pilot, to control your journey, to ensure comfort and safety. This requires hundreds of meters of conduit and cables with fasteners (we manufacture parts in MIM by the thousands), but also sensors to close landing gear and doors, whose design is facilitated by the use of magnetic MIM material and permeable stainless steels.
We must be light and strong, while ensuring a pleasing design. Again MIM and casting are present in the design of every corner of the aircraft, from the kerosene tank purges to the tablet retainer for your meals, but also your seat belt, seat rails, control buttons and levers, signage etc. In other words: everything that surrounds you in the cockpit and ensures your comfort, but also what guides you such as sensors and probes, even protective switch mechanisms impressive in which number is a cockpit.
The use of the solutions offered by Investment Casting and MIM, and the new prototypes with metal additive manufacturing, allow to open a wide range of possibilities, focusing only on the function and freeing from part of the problems of realization. The Ecrimesa Group is very happy to be part of this adventure that has only just begun.
The pioneers still exist and the Ecrimesa Group is here to accompany them and create the future!
